When you walk into a home with dark hardwood flooring, what you’ll see is what you’ve been looking for
A new study has found that the most popular flooring type on Canadian homes has been replaced with a brighter hardwood, but the results of the study were less than ideal.
The results are among the first to reveal how much hardwood has changed in Canada’s homes over the past decade, and they provide a stark reminder of how the industry has changed since the mid-1990s, when the country’s hardwood industry was still being created.
The study, conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, found that hardwood replacement has been on the rise in Canada since 2010, with the most common flooring types in the study replaced by brighter hardwoods.
Some of the bright hardwood types used include maple, cherry, walnut, and red maple.
The most common types of flooring used by Canadians are hardwood and composite.
Composite flooring is typically made from hardwood or composite materials.
But hardwood isn’t always the most cost-effective option.
Researchers say the bright flooring can increase the energy costs of home renovations, especially in smaller communities, where people often do not have a lot of money for a home remodel.
“It can make it more expensive,” said lead researcher Linda Leong, a researcher at the National Centre for Occupied and Exploited Workers Research Institute in Ottawa.
The majority of Canada’s hardwoods used for home renovations are from Canadian hardwood forests, which are typically harvested in the late fall, after the trees are planted.
The forests also produce lumber, but Canada’s government has historically kept the bulk of the lumber out of the hands of foreign manufacturers.
“Canada is a country that has a lot to offer to our global partners,” said Leong.
“And we have a very good track record.”
Hardwood is the most widely used type of floor in Canada.
About 85 per cent of all homes in Canada are constructed of hardwood.
It’s made of a variety of wood species ranging from maple to cherry, and has a light, soft and sturdy texture.
It is used for building decks, ceilings, walls, and floors.
The softest material in hardwood is often called “carpet,” and is commonly used for floors and ceilings.
The dark wood, which is usually used in ceilings, is often used for walls, as well.
Composite floors are a much more expensive option.
It typically comes from the same wood as hardwood but has a softer texture and a higher cost.
It comes in a range of shapes, sizes and materials, and it can be made of any wood, including cherry.
The new study looked at 1,000 homes that had previously been inspected for hardwood replacements and found that all the hardwood was replaced.
“When you look at a lot, there are a lot that are still very, very soft and have not been replaced,” said study co-author Susanne M. Riedl, a professor at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.
The cost of hardwoods varies significantly across the country.
“Hardwood floor is a little bit more expensive than composite floor, so it’s a little more costly than composite, and then it’s very similar to softwood,” said Riedle.
In the study, hardwood cost was measured as the cost of replacing the same flooring on the same building as the previous year, which included the cost to replace all the lumber.
It was then multiplied by the square footage of the house, which was about 1,500 square feet.
It wasn’t possible to measure the cost per square foot of the new floor, but it was enough to estimate the cost.
Riesl said the findings suggest that the cost for hardwoods has gone up.
“The reason is because the industry changed and there is a lot more competition for hardwares, so there is more competition, so the price is more likely to go up,” she said.
The research was published this week in the journal Applied Energy.
“This is an important finding,” said researcher Elizabeth Hsu, a former member of the Canadian Woodworkers Association.
“These are not things we are happy about, but this is something that needs to be looked at and the cost is going to be a big part of that.”
